Frequently asked questions
The short version of the rules. The binding version is in the Terms & Conditions.
The basics
What is Flurri.us?
A weekly marketplace for serial fiction. Writers post chapters on Wednesdays and Saturdays; readers unlock the ones they want with Flurries, and that money goes to the writer.
Who can join?
Anyone 16 or older. You can join as a reader, or as a writer — a writer account automatically comes with its own linked reader account.
What's the difference between a writer account and a reader account?
They're separate accounts with the same email and password, and you can switch between them from your profile. Your linked reader account has a random 7-digit username that can't be changed. Using one account to promote the other breaks the rules and can get both banned.
What times does the site use?
Everything runs on UTC. Weeks start Monday 00:00 UTC, which is when weekly allowances reset.
Readers
What do I get each week?
3 free Flurries, 2 likes, and 2 reports. Up to 1 unused free Flurry, 1 like, and 1 report roll over into the next week; the rest expires.
How much does it cost to unlock a chapter?
It depends on how many likes the chapter has: under 25 likes costs 0.25 Flurry; 25–50 likes costs 0.50; over 50 likes costs 1 and can only be paid with Golden Flurries. Free Flurries are spent first otherwise. Once unlocked, a chapter is yours to read for good.
Can I read anything for free?
Yes — every chapter's opening is free (at least the first 25 words or so). The rest is redacted until you unlock it.
What are likes for?
Likes raise a chapter's popularity (and its unlock price). Giving your 2nd like of the week earns you 1 Golden Flurry. Likes can't be undone.
Can I tip a writer?
Yes, in whole Flurries (minimum 1). Free Flurries are spent first, then Golden.
How do comments work?
Once you've unlocked a chapter you can comment on it and reply to others (up to 2,000 characters). Writers can turn comments off on a chapter or across all their books, and can block individual readers; hidden comments come back if the writer reverses that.
Will a writer see my email?
Only if you choose to share it. Liking or commenting shows an unticked "Share my email" box; ticking it adds your current email to that writer's list. You can remove yourself from any writer's list on your profile — though they may already have saved it.
What are shelves?
Collections of published chapters you put together, with names up to 200 characters. Anyone with a shelf's link can view it.
Writers
How often can I post?
2 chapters per week, and chapters only go live on Wednesdays and Saturdays (UTC). There's no obligation to post. One unused chapter rolls over into the next week.
Can I schedule chapters?
Yes. Schedule any draft for one of the next 8 posting days (about four weeks) and it posts itself at the start of that day. You can't schedule more chapters into a week than you could post that week. If a scheduled post can't go out, it stays in your drafts with the reason.
What do I need before publishing?
A payout method on file. Books need a title and a cover image; a book stays hidden until it has a published chapter. Images must be JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, under 1 MB.
How do I get paid?
You receive the full amount of every unlock and tip. During the beta, only what readers paid in Golden Flurries is cashable; what they paid in free Flurries shows on your dashboard but can't be withdrawn. Payouts are at least 1 Flurry, in whole Flurries, with a 8% platform fee — and are simulated until the Stripe payout integration launches.
Can I talk to my readers?
You can send an announcement (up to 1,000 characters) to the readers who unlocked a chapter — one announcement per book per day. You only ever see how many readers that is, never who.
Can I control comments?
Yes. Turn comments off for a single chapter when editing it, or for all your books at once from your Comments page. You can also block a reader from commenting on any of your books. Existing comments are hidden, not deleted, while comments are off or the reader is blocked.
Can I edit or delete published chapters?
Yes, at any time — except while a chapter is under moderation review.
Flurries & payments
What's a Flurry worth?
1 Flurry = $1. Free Flurries come with your weekly allowance and expire; Golden Flurries are bought or earned and never expire. Flurries have no cash value for readers and can't be withdrawn.
How do I buy Golden Flurries?
In packs: 5 for $5.46, 10 for $10.61, 20 for $20.91. Prices include card processing. Payment is handled by Stripe. You can buy up to 20 Golden Flurries a week (earned Golden doesn't count toward that).
What about refunds?
If a purchase is fully refunded or disputed, the Golden Flurries from it are removed from your balance (it never goes below zero) and the purchase stops counting toward your weekly limit.
Moderation & safety
How do I report a chapter?
Open a chapter you've unlocked and use Report, with a reason of 20 words or fewer. You get 2 reports a week and one per chapter. Only admins see reports.
What happens to a reported chapter?
Once more than half of a chapter's unlockers have reported it — and at least 24 hours after it was published — it's hidden for review. Admins then restore it or delete it. Deleted chapters aren't refunded.
Can accounts be suspended or banned?
Admins can suspend accounts. Permanent bans are issued only by the site owner, apply to a single account, and can be lifted by the site owner. While a writer is banned, their chapters are hidden and their earnings are held rather than paid out; lifting the ban restores both.
